Montcalm East Hotel Review, Shoreditch, London

Styled with boutique flair (think rose-pink throws and velvet bedheads), the 288 rooms are all exterior-facing, which means natural light and city views, and many have floor-to-ceiling windows. Each room features a capsule-coffee machine, Hackney-sourced Flying Horse coffee pods, fluffy robes, slippers, umbrellas, desk space and, if you fancy it, mood lighting. In the bathroom you’ll find a rain shower, underfloor heating and beautifully scented full-sized toiletries by Shoreditch-based Anatomē.

The stars of the hotel are the Sky High rooms on the 16th and 17th floors (you might spot the Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral and Battersea Power Station, among other icons), though even the cosy entry-level Anything-but-Standard rooms are a good size. Every room has a refillable water bottle, bamboo toothbrushes, a recycling bin, biodegradable tea bags (by East London Tea Company) and other sustainability-focused touches.
